Cardio workout routine
Cardio exercise can do wonders for you. There are many benefits to starting or adding this to your routine.
It builds your heart strength. Your lung capacity will increase which will allow you to take in more oxygen. It's also a great stress reducer.
Of course you can lose weight with cardio workouts. You'll then have more energy. Plus when you look better you'll feel better about yourself.
How much you do will depend on what your goal is. If you want to maintain your current weight or build up some stamina then 2-3 times per week at 20-30 minutes each session. To lose weight, then 4 times per week or more will help speed up the process. These should at least be 30 minute sessions each. More if you can do it.
Determine your intensity level by your current fitness level. If it's been awhile, or you're just starting out, 30 minutes may be too much. Start with 10 minutes. As a general rule, the less time you have to exercise the more intense it should be. But always listen to your body. If you feel out of breath, obviously take a break.
The type of cardio workout you do is totally your choice and again, dependent on your current fitness level. Start by walking. Not like you're strolling through the mall window shopping but like you're late for something important.
Jogging is probably one of the best ways to increase your metabolism and lose weight. If you're not the jogging type, how about going for a bike ride?
Jumping jacks or jumping rope are also good cardio workouts. Time yourself to see how long you can keep going. Or to increase intensity, see how many you can do in a minute.
For a more planned workout, consider a DVD program. A good one will map everything out for so you're not wondering what you should be doing.
No matter what type of cardio workout you choose, remember to try to mix things up and keep it interesting.
